Education doesn’t come only from an institution

December 23rd 2009

Not everyone who lacks a college degree is uneducated. Not everyone who has a college degree is educated. Plenty of people skip along lackadaisically through college and graduate.

It appears to me that the concept of college degrees exist only so hiring managers can identify smart and qualified people. I discovered this once I interviewed with people who understood what I was talking about (programmers.)

I could talk for ages about all of the neat stuff I’ve done with a computer and a text editor, but all of that means nothing to a recruiter or a hiring manager.
